St. Johns, Arizona
St. Johns is a community of 3500 people in Eastern Arizona, 18 miles from the New Mexico state line and 30 miles North of Springerville, Arizona. St. Johns is about 50 miles from Interstate 40 to the North. The elevation is about 5,730'. Originally named El Vaditio (little river crossing) by Spanish explorers, St. Johns was a thriving Spanish-American agricultural area when Solomon Barth acquired land and cattle and settled nearby in 1873. Mormon pioneers from Utah settled in St. Johns in 1879. The name El Vaditio was changed to San Juan (Spanish for St. John) and to St. Johns when the town was established in 1880. St. Johns incorporated in 1946.
